New York City Moms: Too Much on the Brain

This week on New York City Moms, I wrote a piece called "Too Much on the Brain" - here's a teaser:Today I had one of those days where the world seemed to be falling down on me. I have had a doctor’s appointment scheduled since the end of January for my son.  My daughter didn’t have school, so I had to make preparations to get her taken care of for the whole afternoon.  I dropped her off with a friend who was graciously planning to take her to Central Park.  She set off happily and I got in the car to head to White Plains to … [Read more...]

KidCulture: New York Hall of Science Part II

In February, I wrote about the New York Hall of Science right here on this blog.  As a result, the museum invited me a Blogger Event.  I was really honored to be invited and and my kids are always up for a visit to the Hall of Science; plus, I was also looking forward to meeting other parent bloggers. As soon as ice-skating and Sunday School ended today, we raced to Queens.  We were greeted at the door and given the schedule for the day.  We had two hours until lunch so we rushed off to do as much as we could until then.  We … [Read more...]

Up Your Bottom! Hilarious real-life stories of foreign language gone wrong

I'll never forget it.  I was a young girl living in Israel on a year abroad.  I ordered a glass of water in my broken Hebrew.  The word for glass came out of my mouth more like a private part of the woman's body.  The waiter was just as embarrassed as I was!My old colleagues at Langenscheidt Publishing are running a very cool contest in preparation of a new language guide they are putting together. They are asking us to share our embarrassing moments when speaking a foreign language with the world, just as I have above.  … [Read more...]

Kid Culture: The Bronx Zoo

Today was such a beautiful day; it was truly the first day of spring, reaching almost 80 degrees.  We were planning to go skiing for the day since we know our time left for that sport is ending with the beautiful weather, but we were too exhausted to get ourselves in gear to travel the 2 hours to Windham.  The first thought that came to my head when left with an empty, lovely afternoon was to hit the Bronx Zoo.  The kids were slightly out of control and not getting along, so we needed a distraction.Word to the wise: always check the hours … [Read more...]

Culture Mom Night Out: God of Carnage and Junior’s

Lat night my friend treated me to a ticket to see God of Carnage on Broadway. It was my belated birthday gift.  I didn't know the story beforehand, but I did know that the play was a Tony Award winner in 2009 and has received rave reviews.  Plus, you can't beat the cast: Jeff Daniels, Dylan Baker, Lucy Liu and Janet McTeer.  It's also written by French playwright Yasmina Reza, who wrote Broadway's Art.It all starts out very sane and civilized as two married couples, who have never met, meet in the Brooklyn loft of one to talk about a … [Read more...]

When the Cat’s Away

My latest blog on New York City Moms can be found at:http://www.nycmomsblog.com/2010/03/when-the-cats-away.html.  Here's a teaser:You know the expression “when the cat’s away, the mice will play?”  Well, in my house this week, it’s been the reverse, as the mice are killing each other.  My husband has just taken a new job and had a week between the old and the new.  We decided it was a good time for him to spend some quality with his family in England.  The children did not want to go for such a long time, and I … [Read more...]

Julianne Nicholson, James Waterston to Star in Parents’ Evening at the Flea

Now this is a play I can relate to! Julianne Nicholson and James Waterston will star in the world premiere of Bathsheba Doran's Parents' Evening at the Flea Theatre, April 17-May 29, with an opening on April 29th. Jim Simpson will direct. In the play, a married couple prepare with dread for the annual "Parents' Evening" at their daughter's school. How many times have you been in those same exact shoes?
