One of the many perks of blogging is the events that I'm invited to.  From time to time, my children are also extended invites to these events.  I'm quite careful about the events that I choose to attend, for so many reasons.  For one thing, I live in Westchester and it's not easy to take my children into Manhattan. Two Book Reviews: Cutting For Stone and A Reliable Wife

I usually like to record my thoughts about books that I read on this site and the last two are worth reporting on. So, without further ado, they are A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick and Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.  I highly recommend one, the other not so much.   I'll start with the one I adored. I was a huge fan of the Dr. Seuss series growing up and was eager to take my kids to see the new motion picture, The Lorax. So, when I was invited to a special screening last week, I jumped at the chance. Ten years ago this month, millions became witnesses to the kidnapping and murder of the journalist Daniel Pearl at the hands of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, an Al Qaeda operative also alleged to be behind the 9/11 attacks. Pearl had recently been named the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal; he was in Pakistan retracing the steps of the so-called “shoe bomber,” Richard Reid, when he was kidnapped. I feel blessed to live right near NYC.  Not only can I enjoy what NYC has to offer but every now and then something unique ends up right outside my door.  This one happens to be in Riverdale, New York and appeals to the culture vulture part of me. Elisa Contemporary Art presents My Hero, a new art exhibit focusing on Superheroes in today’s contemporary art.
