I love theater. There is so much about it that resonates with me. The ability that people have to weave together the words, acting, staging, choreography and costumes to tell a story for me is unique and magical. Every year when the Tony Awards come on TV, I inform my family that I'm hibernating for a few hours to watch the industry I support by seeing practically every show that hits the NYC stage. I love Neil Patrick Harris' energy, the musical numbers, the glitter, the glitz, the familiar faces from Broadway. It's always Read More
Because life’s like that.
This week I read a brilliant article by Deborah Copaken Kogan, a well-known writer and feminist. I was attracted to the title of the article about her so-called post feminist life “Life in Arts and Letters”. It immediately brought to mind the TV show with almost the same name that I relished in the 1990s and I was curious what Kogan had to say about her life as a feminist. And her piece hit me like a bomb. As I am sure it hit the whole of the Internet. I read how it hit the writers at Women & Hollywood and Jezebel hard – 17,000 shares on Read More
Inspiration Found at Daily Beast’s Women in the World: The Lost Orphans
I feel lucky. I've spent the last two electric days mesmerized by the likes of the most incredible women in the world at Daily Beast's Women in the World conference in NYC at Lincoln Center. I listened to the Honorable Hillary Clinton motivate the audience to get out there and fight for women's rights on a grassroots level, Meryl Streep salute her idol Irish feminist Inez McCormack, Angelina Jolie salute Malala who loved wearing a pink dress and said "All I want is an education and I am afraid of no one" and got shot by the Taliban in the head, Tom Read More
Thinking About Admission
A few weeks ago I had the privilege of screening ADMISSION , a Paul Weitz film starring Tina Fey and Paul Rudd. I also had the chance to meet and attend a press conference with all three the next day. Three publics figures whose work I adore, it was quite the treat. Tina Fey was just as cute, tiny and down-to-earth as I expected (seriously, could you just gag?). I particularly liked her response when asked if getting into NYC schools is harder than getting into Princeton. About the interview process, she said: What if you have to take them that Read More
On Being an “Independent Woman” & Traveling Through Asia
We were midway into our trip to Vietnam. We had ventured to Halong Bay, a fairyland of limestone peaks. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and I felt like I was dreaming. As we headed into a smaller boat from our cruise liner for a day of kayaking in the caves, a Vietnamese worker on the boat looked at us - a group of five American women with no men in tow - and called us "Independent Women". A big smile swept over my face, and it remained with me throughout my travels. Every which way you look in Halong Bay, you see pure, Read More
