Gracing the Set of Netflix’s Grace And Frankie

graceandfrankie

Grace and Frankie is a show about friendship. It's a show about women. It's about aging. It's a show about life changes that hit you when you least expect them. It's about motherhood and what it's like later in life when the kids venture out on their own. It's about love - when it breaks and how one picks up the pieces. It deals with some very tough issues in a very realistic way. It's a show I've binge watched three times. It's also a show with legends (Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen). Season one featured Read More

Netflix’s Project Mc2 and a Tween Giveaway

projectmc2

I've been very intune with the need for STEM over the last few years, not just because I have a daughter, but because I have worked for tech companies with an emphasis on digital, science and technology. I understand the dire need to encourage and inspire young girls to pave the way for them in these important fields. Yet it was surprising, in a very good way, when my daughter approached me about a new show on Netflix called Project Mc2, a show about four girls who join forces with intelligence chief The Quail, played by actress and real-life math Read More

When Netflix is a Girl’s Bestfriend

netflix

I've been recovering from an accident for several months and have been home more than usual. At first, I wondered how I'd spend my time. Days came and went. Until I remembered that cozy spot in the basement where I could sit and watch TV. Not just regular TV, but Netflix. So equipped with a blanket, a heating pad, liquids and meds (believe me, I needed plenty in the early days of recovery), I sat down and started flipping through the classic and independent films. At first, I felt inundated by the amount of choice. I have over 100 saved in my queue from Read More

Giveaway: Woman in Gold Blu-ray & $50 Visa Gift Card

womaningold

Update: This giveaway is closed. Available on July 7th, Academy Award winner Helen Mirren stars in Woman in Gold, the incredible story of a Jewish refugee who was forced to flee Vienna during World War II, and the paintings that were left behind. When I saw Woman in Gold early this year, I was spellbound. The film had a poignant intensity about a particular time in history and it's a story that demanded to be told. In the film, Mirren plays Maria Altmann, a Viennese-born resident of Los Angeles, who in 1998 battled the Austrian authorities for Read More

Guest Post: Minions Review

Minions-Poster1

Minions are small, yellow creatures who have existed since the beginning of time, and certainly since the beginning of my children's time. I couldn’t have hoped for three more lovable characters than Stuart, Kevin and Bob - the cute yellow heroes of the new movie out this week, Minions. Uh Oh! I took my children (ages 7 and 11) to see a preview of the movie last weekend. There has been a lot of build up to the prequel to Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013), and I was hopeful it would live up to our expectations. Needless to say, it Read More

Review: HBO Doc’s Haunting THE LION’S MOUTH OPENS

lionsmouth

"I will better serve the world if I don't have it." These are the words expressed by actress/filmmaker Marianna Palka. She is referring to Huntington’s disease, an incurable hereditary degenerative brain disorder which she watched her father die a painful death from as a young mam In the acclaimed short documentary premiering tomorrow on HBO, THE LION’S MOUTH OPENS, Palka gathers her friends to find out if she has inherited Huntington’s disease. Several other family members got it, including her sister, so the potential for her is quite high. Read More

“Coming Out” Soon: Grace and Frankie on Netflix

gracieandfrankie

The trailer for Grace and Frankie, a new Netflix original program debuting on May 8th, was released today. I watched it and can't wait to see the 13. I have a feeling this binge will be fast and furious and over in a flash. When I love a show (like Orange is the New Black, like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), I just can't stop. Not only do you have Jane Fonda, who plays Grace, and Lily Tomlin, who plays Frankie - I know, I could stop there and you'd be happy with these two acting goddesses- but now I find you have Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, who Read More

The Dovekeepers on CBS: A Femisist, Biblical Tale

The Dovekeepers

I'm a sucker for Jewish stories that revolve around women, partcicularly going back to Biblical times. Anita Diamant's The Red Tent was such story story that took the route and appeared on Lifetime a few years ago. It wasn't the best adaptation but I give the network credit for even trying to tackle such a complicated, brave story (particularly as a former Lifetime staffer). CBS is bringing another feminist, Biblical tale to the screen as a 4-hour mini-series callled The Dovekeepers (based on a book by Alice Hoffman). It premieres on Tuesday, March 31 Read More

Review: HBO’s It’s Me, Hilary: The Man Who Drew Eloise

its_me_hilary_the_man_who_drew_eloise_xlg

https://youtu.be/L5Hs_PabnW0 When Lena Dunham met Hilary Knight, famous for his Eloise drawings, she called it a very visceral, chill-inducing experience. She was meeting someone who's work had had a profound on her growing up. He, in turn, felt he had known her all his life. They bonded over their creative sparks and collection.  He tells her that Eloise, "this little thing in this little dress" is himself and she feels Eloise is in his DNA. In the upcoming HBO documentary, It’s Me, Hilary: The Man Who Drew Eloise, Dunham spends time with Knight Read More

A Chat with the Cast of HOME and a Giveaway

Home-1Sht

When I was invited to view the film HOME and attend a press junket with the creatives involved that included Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin & Director Tim Johnson, I was thrilled. Such talent - such creativity - such legends. First I had to see the film to see for myself. So, on a late Monday afternoon, I ventured into the city for a screening of the film. The film is about Oh, a misfit from another planet who lands on earth and finds himself on the run from his own people. He forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who Read More
