Last weekend I attended a blogging event called Getting Gorgeous. I knew that it would be a special event when I got the invite. Last year at BlogHer, I attended the inaugural event and was overwhelmed by the amount of attention and detail that went into its planning and execution by two well-known and terrific bloggers, Audrey McClellan and Vera Sweeney. At that event, they gathered brands to educate and inform bloggers about reputable, solid products for womenand provided a forum for bloggers and brands to build relationships. You had to really … [Read more...]

Review: The Motherf**ker with the Hat
When I heard that the name of the new play by Stephen Adly Guirgis' play was The Motherf**ker with the Hat, I had to laugh. The other plays I had seen by this subversive playwright also had peculiar names: Our Lady on 121st Street and Jesus Hopped the A Train. The play is also produced by the LAByrinth Theater, one of the better theaters in NYC. All that, and you get a cast that includes Chris Rock, Bobby Carnavale, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Annabella Sciorra and Yul Vasquez. I was definitely intrigued. In case you were wondering, yes, we do hear … [Read more...]

Review: Compulsion at the Public Theater
A long time fan of Mandy Patinkin, I was very excited to hear about his latest play, "Compulsion", which is part of my membership at the Public Theater. I knew very little about it other than that it involved Anne Frank, the Holocaust, Israel and puppets, so naturally I was very curious. Upon entrance to the theater, we came face to face with a group of puppets soaring over the set. At first glace, they would appear to be central characters of this play as they are the cast of the Anne Frank story - all the families that were in hiding … [Read more...]

Symphony Space: The Inside Scoop
Symphony Space really gets it. They invited a group of bloggers to come inside yesterday for an informational session on what they're all about. As a culture blogger who's more than obsessed with theater and the arts, it was a breath of fresh air. I feel like an arts organization finally understands what we, as bloggers, are all about and what we are trying to do. I am a fervent supporter of the arts. That's why I blog about theater, music, books, film and television. I truly love what I'm covering and I advocate for more arts funding and education … [Read more...]
Toy Fair 2011 and a Giveaway: Madame Alexander Fancy Nancy Ohh La La! Doll
Two weeks ago, I spent a day at Toy Fair 2011, checking out the industry’s newest creations and hottest products. It’s a four-day event, filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of toy manufacturers and vendors from around the world. It’s such a big show that it’s hard to digest. One day is not quite enough to see it all. Designated as a blogger with a press pass, I was able to have private viewings of some of the toy lines and I also met dozens of marketers. There was so much to look at, so many new toys to try and oggle at. It … [Read more...]
