Our trip to the UK has not only taken us back in time but it has introduced our children to various parts of UK history. We discovered a bit about Victorian history at Chatsworth House and Elizabethan chivalry at Bolsover Castle. Our visit to Creswell Crags in Derbyshire also presented us with new information about a time period we've yet to explore with our children: the Ice Age. Located in a limestone gorge full of caves, Creswell Crags is home to the only Ice Age rock art in Britain, which tells the gripping story of life in the last Ice Age – Read More
Going Back in Time at the Bolsover Castle
On our recent visit to Chesterfield in Derbyshire, we visited my children's first real castle called Bolsover. Built in 1612 by Charles Cavendish as a mansion modeled on a medieval castle, it is now a tourist site that proudly displays the castle's remains. It has withheld the test of time, and there is a lot of history to be learned from a walk around. Some of the castle is in the open air, so do bundle your kids up. The castle is now in the care of English Heritage and has been since the death of William Cavendish's (the son of Charles) wife in Read More
A Day Trip to Chatsworth House in England’s Peak District with the Kids
In the heart of England's Peak District lies a nearly 500 year-old estate, Chatsworth House. We spent the day there yesterday and it was a wonderful opportunity to teach my children about English history, which they should know more of having a British father, and take in the House's long-standing love of art and culture. It was an education for all of us, as well as a lesson in decadence and opulence. I am also happy to say that my the house held my 7 and 9 year-old's attention steadfast and we are reached that milestone where we are able to visit Read More

Getting Ready to Spend Passover in London (w/ Matzo Pizza Recipe)
This year Passover is going have a different meaning than it has over the last few years. We'll be with in London with my husband's family on our annual trip over. My kids will be with their first cousins, grandmother and aunts and uncles, and we'll be in another culture. Another culture we know very well, no less. But still, the Jewish life in Britain is very unique for me. First of all, my Jewish UK experience starts as soon as I board the plane tomorrow night. There will be a lot of black hats and Yiddish speakers, many of whom "daven" or Read More
A Weekend in the Lehigh Valley with the Kids
Last weekend, we found an unexpected hidden gem of a family travel spot in the Lehigh Valley. Located just less than two hours from where we live in the heart of Pennsylvania near the Poconos Mountains, lies several quiet towns filled with museums, restaurants, antique shops and things to do. As my daughter correctly stated when we left, we have never really explored much of Pennsylvania other than Philadelphia (though we have actually been to the Poconos and the Amish Country). After this trip, I can tell you for sure that we will be back. We were Read More
Weekend Getaway Suggestion: The Inn at Serenbe
Nestled just thirty minutes from the Atlanta Airport lies a true gem of a place to stay, the Inn at Serenbe. I grew up in Atlanta yet had never heard about it until my mother mentioned it to me recently. Curious about the grounds, gourmet dining, hayrides, bonfires, chickens. the trails and the folk art that fills the property, we made our reservation and met there this past weekend. One sister arrived from Brooklyn, the other from Philadelphia, I arrived from Westchester, NY and my mom came in from the middle of Atlanta. We had not Read More
Our Winter Family Getaway to the Hamptons
We recently spent a few nights in Montauk. I know what you're thinking. Why go there in the winter time? What could there possibly be to do? Well, we were thinking the same thing at first, but our love for the area won out and we decided to spend part of our winter break there. We headed to the Panoramic View Resort & Residences where we stayed in an oceanfront room in one their beach cottages. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which has a separate living room with a sofa bed. It has a small kitchen with a refrigerator and stove top Read More
Snowshoeing for the First Time in Beaver Creek
Last week, while vacationing in Beaver Creek, Colorado, I went snowshoeing for the first time. It was a sport I'd never thought about before, and I was eager to try it. It's also a sport that has a big following all over the world. You can either snowshoe for pleasure, or you can race competitively (believe me, I know what I'm talking about, I met several people who do it). According to the Snow Sports Industries America, snowshoe sales are up 21% in units and up 20% in dollars sold through February this season. If you like sports, particularly Read More
