When I was growing up in Atlanta, GA, I was taught to emulate Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a man who never backed down fighting against racism and he dedicated his life to achieving equality and justice for all Americans of all colors. I was highly aware of who he was and how much he had changed the world I was growing up in. I want my children to have the same knowledge, so on our recent trip to Atlanta, I took them for a visit to the King Center, an amazing museum dedicated to his life and work. The complex which spreads over a few blocks Read More
Summer in NYC: Bronx Zoo’s Wild (LEGO) Forest
Over at the Savvy Source, I write all about life in NYC with kids. Check out my latest post on Best Spots for a Summer Picnic. A few weeks ago, I featured the Bronx Zoo in a piece about NYC From A to Z where I called it "one of the world's largest metropolitan where parents and children can spend hours gazing at over 600 species from around the world." It's all that and more. This summer, take your kids to the Bronx Zoo's Wild Forest to check out giant LEGO sculptures of tigers, flamingos, gorillas, and other exotic wildlife, then visit their Read More
Atlanta with Kids: Geyser Towers at Stone Mountain (and more)
On our current visit to Atlanta, I am trying to take my kids to places we have yet to explore, so when I received an invitation to check out the new Geyser Towers at Stone Mountain, I was thrilled. Born and raised in Atlanta, I am always eager to revisit places and attractions that I loved as a child, and Stone Mountain was one of them. I have vivid memories of climbing the mountain to the summit, watching the dazzling lazer show at night, picnics with my family on park benches, heading to the park's beach and water slides. I was eager to visit this Read More
Visiting Storm King Art Center with Kids
Last weekend I finally managed to visit a place I had been longing to explore: Storm King Art Center, located at Old Pleasant Hill Road in Mountainville, NY. It's a short ride from NYC (1-1/2 hours) and makes a day trip from the city or from other parts of the Tri-State region. If you're a modern art fan, you've probably been to the Dia in Beacon. It's an equally satisfying visit and we met many NYC natives up for a visit. Storm King is a 500-acre sculpture garden that includes works from very famous sculptors and artists such as Henry Moore, Roy Read More

Want to Show Your Children the World? Start here.
Today I went to a really interesting conversation led by extraordinary women who are as passionate about travel as I am to kick off a new family travel web site, www.PreferredFamily.com. It was a wonderful afternoon, spent at the beautiful Trump Tower Columbus Circle, where I sipped champagne and gazed out at an amazing view of Central Park. As a traveling parent, I'm always looking for a one-stop resource for information on where to stay with my kids. That's why I'm fascinated by this site, where families can book a trip and find discussion on Read More
Basic Family Fun at 1000 Acres Ranch Resort
If you're looking for a truly unique and relatively inexpensive adventure this summer for you and your family, look no further than 1000 Acres Ranch Resort. Located on the banks of the Hudson River just over 200 miles from NYC, in the heart of the Adirondacks, this 70 year old resort is bringing back the traditional dude ranch and staying faithful to who they are. For my kids, who have never experienced a real cow boy, never experienced horse back riding, never experienced a real bonfire, there was much to fall in love with at this simple, but Read More

Exploring London with the Kids
We just finished a week in London. We actually come here every year to visit family, but we always look forward to the trip. I've posted a about prior trips to London on Traveling Mom: Where to Eat with Kids in London A Day at London’s Science Museum Exploring the London Museum of Jewish Life with Kids London’s Restaurants for Traveling Moms London on a Read More
A “Zen” Family Stay at the Hempel Hotel in London
Tucked away in the beautiful Notting Hill section of London lies a jewel of a hotel, and what you might find a surprisingly child-friendly place to stay. The Hempel is a breath of fresh air for any family wanting a bit of an escape from the excitement and business of London. Instead of staying in a typical London hotel and getting very little space for your money, The Hempel offers full-size apartments with plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax after exploring the city. Best of all, it's located right next to Hyde Park and Notting Hill Read More
