A Day Out in NYC with Brands, Friends and a Little Pampering

Last weekend I attended  a blogging event called Getting Gorgeous.  I knew that it would be a special event when I got the invite.  Last year at BlogHer, I attended the inaugural event and was overwhelmed by the amount of attention and detail that went into its planning and execution by two well-known and terrific bloggers, Audrey McClellan and Vera Sweeney.  At that event, they gathered brands to educate and inform bloggers about reputable, solid products for womenand provided a forum for bloggers and brands to build relationships.   You had to really be there to understand what I mean when I say that it was truly one of the most fun and well organized events I’d ever attended, and I was eager for the second one to come.  I was also eager to see and meet many of my favorite bloggers.  I’ve stated before on this blog many times over that many of these women are my new extended family, and as the date neared, I realized just how many of my friends were coming from places near and far – from Boston, Washington, DC, Philadelphia…even Toronto.  Hence, I was truly excited and when the morning arrived, I ran out of my house!  It was a day for me, and I started it off with a coffee in a adorable cafe’ in the city and headed slowly over to the event.

When I arrived the Metropolitan Pavillion, the line went all the way down the block, and I thought, what is this, another BlogHer?!  Seriously, but I didn’t mind at all.   I immediately joined some friends in line, including @savvymomnyc and @shoshi (a very old, wonderful friend) and waited to go in.  When we went in, the room looked beautiful, clearly set up so women could easily stroll around the room at a leisurely pace to chat with brands.  Audrey and Vera carefully selected the represented brands: Degree, Tide to Go, Hanes, Simply Orange Juice, Sarah Potempa, Dream Water, Goody Hair, Miaraclebody, Amy Tara Koch and Hair Room Service.  I especially loved, loved the Flip Out Sandals – they remind me of grown-up Crocs with jewelry you can swap in and out.  I also loved meeting Liz Lange at the both for her web site, Shopafrolic, a web site that provides great shopping deals.  I met her at the last event, when I found myself talking to her for 5 minutes before I realized she was my maternity clothing goddess.  She is so lovely, so gracious.  I loved munching on chips and guacamole and edamame hummus provided by BJ’s.  I also enjoyed meeting the women behind Lifetime Moms, who’s network I recently joined as a affiliate.  And Weight Watchers, a program I firmly believe in and endorse for losing weight 100%.  And of course, meeting the folks Sandals Resorts.  Many years, when I worked for Lifetime Television, they hosted all weddings on Weddings of a Lifetime.  Their name and place holds special memories for me.

Like I said, so many bloggers are more than acquaintances for me now, they are true friends, and seeing them was a pleasure.  @Dagmar Bleasdale, @SavvyMomNYC, @Squashedmom, @c2cmom, @selfishmom, @beccasara, @hip2housewife, rolemommy, @ComplicatedMama,  @pluslily, @Stacyknows, @dadarocks ,@nysinglemom, @hollypavlika, @juliecole, @lamerejoie and so many others.

My only regret about the day?  I didn’t partake in the hair blow-outs or make-overs.  Don’t ask me why, lord knows I needed it!

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post or any of my participation. However, I did receive some freebies in a goody bag at the event to try out some of the products.
