I made the hotel owner find me the last hotel room in York with an ensuite bathroom as he cursed me for being an American. “You Americans love your bathrooms too much…” and on and on. “And you’re so young why do you need one?” I didn’t have to answer but couldn’t help telling him I had my period and bled profusely. Actually I did bleed profusely but didn’t have my period. It worked and he ran to get me a room.
