This past week was an adventure for both my 9 year-old daughter and I. We ventured into NYC several times for some real mother-daughter time.
We spent one night celebrating American Girl’s newest historical character, Caroline Abbott, while learning about her home in Sackets Harbor, NY, and its role in the War of 1812. There were 1812 re-enactment actors from Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site, which was recently designated as a historically significant site on New York State’s ‘Path Through History,’ dressed in period attire, there to educate us about the War of 1812. I brought my husband and daughter along for the ride, and my husband enjoyed asking the actors their take on the British defeat. We celebrated the launch over dinner in their restaurant, an experience my daughter has not tired of yet.
Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site located in the Thousand Islands region of New York is a popular destination featuring re-enactors, exhibits, interpretive signs, and guided and self-guided tours and it is also included in Governor Cuomo’s “Path Through History,” a statewide roadmap that ties historically and culturally significant sites, locations and events throughout the Empire State. We’ll have to visit soon.
By the way, my daughter is not a huge doll girl but she enjoys our visits to the store and comes home with a new found love for the dolls. I don’t fully undersand it, but I don’t question some things in my life. This is one.
Then were invited by the folks at Sharpie to interview Ariana Grande from one of my daughter’s favorite shows, Victorious, about a campaign she is working on at Staple’s on behalf of their brand. I let my daughter conduct the interview, which I happily video’d, but who would have thought the background music would be so loud that I can’t share it here on the blog? It was a shame but I will tell you that she did a terrific job. I majored in Journalism, so if she follows in my footsteps, I can’t say I’d mind….
But her favorite event? Hands down the fabulous Fasiontweenstas spearheaded by my friends at KidzVuz. It was a day of girl-ing out with the best fashion, beauty, technology, books, crafts and fun brands for tweens including Children’s Place, Microsoft, Fashion Angels, Tapefetti, iScream, Sparkle Hearts and Glitter Tattoo.
My daughter dressed mannequins with the girls at Children’s Place, “dyed” her hair using Color Rox Hair Chox, with help from the Fashion Angels, got a glitter tattoo at the Glitter Tattoo booth, tried out the new Microsoft Surface computer, made a wallet out of Tapefetti, learned about deodorant from Sparkle Hearts. All this while I chatted with my friends, drank cocktails from Boozecarriage.com and watched all the girls shoot videos for KidzVuz. It was a day in heaven for both of us.
KidzVuz.com is secure video review and sharing site where children ages 7-12 create, comment and connect. I am quite sure I will have more to say about the brands I learned about at this amazingly organized event in the near future.
