Learn about dragon boats in this one-day event this Saturday, July 16th at the NY Hall of Science. Your kids can test their strength and race on rowing machines, experience traditional Chinese dances including a Lion Dance, watch kung fu masters perform Chinese martial arts, and decorate a lion mask to take home. A 40-foot-long dragon boat will be on display. Activities will be held from noon – 5 pm, unless otherwise noted.
Activities are free with NYSCI admission and include:
Dragon Boat
Marvel at a 40-ft long teak boat and meet athletes who compete in dragon boat races around the world.
Paddle Machines
Try your hand at paddling, get some tips from the racing experts, and race your family members!
Lion Dance Performance – 1 pm
A local youth group will perform a Lion Dance, a traditional Chinese dance.
Kung Fu Performance – 2 pm
Watch kung fu masters perform Chinese martial arts.
Chinese Dance Performance – 3 pm
Dancers perform traditional and folk dances.
Lion Masks
Decorate a lion mask and practice your own lion dance!
Boat Float
Build a boat and test its buoyancy.
