This season the Seaport Museum is offering a really cool holiday experience that’s perfect for the whole family – the American Magic Lantern Theater Christmas Show – on Saturday, December 18th, with performances at 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM at Seaport Museum New York, located at 12 Fulton Street (between Front Street and Water Street) in Manhattan.
A precursor to film, magic lantern shows were a popular form of entertainment in the 19th century. A projector shows images – many in color – and a narrator leads the crowd through an interactive story where guests could end up singing, dancing or acting out portions of the story. The Christmas performances will take guests through exciting tales of the sea that include shipwrecks, rescue missions, sea creatures and more!
Tickets to each performance are $5 for museum members, $8 for non-members. Reservations are required and can be placed at (212) 748- 8786 or at reservations@seany.org.
Right now on The Culture Mom, you can win a family pack of four tickets to the American Magic Lantern Theater Christmas. The Seaport Museum is a wonderful museum on the city’s waterfront that you can explore before or after the show. Right now they have an Alfred Stieglitz exhibit that focuses on his images of New York City. You can also take your kids to the Imagination Playground, a spectacular location for kids that comes complete with an aqua theater, building blocks, a sand area with real sailing masts, hammocks, climbing structures and much more.
