This a guest post written by writer Lisa Gerstel-Zach, a diverse and seasoned executive who has spent her career in Children’s and Family Entertainment via Publishing, Live Events and Broadcast before stepping back to take a much earned reprieve from the Corporate world in order to reinvent herself and remember why she moved to New York. She lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.
Pip’s Island is a wonderful introduction as to what immersive theater can be. My four year old and her best friend, each daughters of avid adventurers and seekers of the unusual, were in absolute awe.
We were part of Explorer Group #12 as we ventured across the island to liberate the power supply and save the day. Our group of eight young “explorers” and their “assistants” loved the adventure. We met puppets of all sizes and incarnation, were transported via sound, light, animation and of course BUBBLES! The sixty minutes flew by as we moved through the island’s immersed environment exploring a whole new world…one that acknowledges the merger of technology and play.
The scenery was dazzling, interactive and thoroughly engaging. The costumes, Shellie in particular were mesmerizingly delightful, especially when seen through the eyes of my daughter and her friend. The cast of actors paid great attention to the young explorers as they were presented with clues and riddles to navigate and explore.
We had a fantastic time and look forward to our exploration of the world of theater.
