La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa, A RockResort, is haunted by the ghost of the former owner’s wife, Julia Staab. The resort sits on six historically rich acres in downtown Santa Fe. In the 19th century, the adobe city grew as residents from Europe and the Eastern United States arrived.  A prosperous German-Jewish immigrant merchant Abraham Staab built his three-story brick mansion on the property in 1882.  Abraham and his wife Julia entertained Santa Fe society in the grand residence.  But when Mrs. Staab lost her child only a few weeks after it was born, legend says that she withdrew from Santa Fe society and spent the remainder of her days in her bedroom, and then in 1896 her obituary appeared in the newspaper.

Legend has it that Mrs. Staab loved her home so much that she has never left it.  She has been the subject of many ghost tours, as well as an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Julia has been seen numerous times on the stairwell by the room, dressed in a long flowing dark gown with a hood, and one hotel guest even saw her face reflected in his mirror while he was shaving. Guests have inquired if a Victorian movie was being filmed on the premises upon seeing her ghost; others who have stayed in the suite have woken up in the morning to find objects moved, such as candlesticks that were on the mantelpiece being found placed on the floor. Her spirit haunts the Staab House bar, where guests have seen the chandeliers move, water faucets turn on and off, and smell the scent of roses – her favorite flower.
