The gals at Kidzvuz certainly have their fingers on the tween pulse. At every event they’ve hosted over the past few years, I’ve actually discovered what my tween loves. Leave it to them to help me find out what makes her tick way before I ever do. They even managed to get her to record a Kidzvuz product video at their last event, an unprecedented event (she’s camera shy). From Broadway shows to the new Annie film to technology to crafts to charity/giving back, they introduced her to so many new things and ways to spend this upcoming holiday season.
They gathered 100 influencers with their kids at Chelsea Piers with a dozen or so sponsors who proudly displayed their wares, and it all struck a chord with my 11 year-old daughter. If you’re wondering what to get your girly tween, pay attention. I have ideas. (By the way, some may be things I like – can I cheat?)
– The HP Stream 13 is HP’s newest, chic Window-based PC that stores content in the cloud and retails at a low $229.99. It comes in bright colors every tween will love. Plus, there is no annual contract. HP also introduced the new HP Stream 7 Tablet, also cloud connected, retailing at a low $99.95.
– My kids are heavily tech focused, so both my kids (my son, too) enjoyed hearing about Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV show is now available on PlayStation 4, XboxOne and Xbox 360. Kids can play with a selection of episodes from the TV show and compete in multiplayer mode with fun-silly challenges. These rabbits are pretty whacky….and really fun.
– I love keeping my kids crafty at home and the folks at School Specialty had a lot of ideas for me. My daughter enjoyed interacting in their classroom like experience that included art, math/science and language arts using paper flowers, scratch picture frames, human torso modeling and sentence creation boards. Long may her creative streak last.
– My daughter loved hanging out at the Annie Movie booth. We actually just received an invite to an advance screening and this is a movie that I may sing and dance her out of the theater watching ( out of embarrassment). My whole family is looking forward to this movie.
– It makes my daughter happy to see me happy, so we were both equally chuffed to see Keurig at the event. I wake up every morning to a cup of coffee using the Keurig. It’s the first thing I even say “Hello” to. I love their flavors and ease of coffee making, and how much a cup of their coffee tastes like one I’d get in a cafe.
– Unfortunately, I spend way too much time at Stop and Shop buying groceries, but fortunately they were at the Kidzvuz event to remind me how important food is to my family with a Spin the Wheel game. My kids took home plush vegies and fruit to remind us all about healthy eating.
– Every Hanukkah, we spend one of the eight nights discussing charity. I give my kids a sum of money to donate to a cause of their choice. Kidzvuz reminded me about two excellent causes to consider: @ScaryMommy’s #ScaryMommyThanksgiving Project and my friend Leticia Barr (techsavvymama’s) daughter’s Ribbon Barrettes for Research project, raising money for Cystic Fibrosis.
– I was definitely enamored with Downtown Bookworks, a children’s publishing company with the mission of raising a new generation of book lovers. The list reflects kids’ true passions—science and nature, crafts and the arts.
– We were introduced to new apps including Battery Pop and GammaHeroes. My daughter is always downloading apps and I love hearing about educational ones and these are two we will be looking into this holiday season.
– Being a Broadway family, The Broadway League was our favorite booth. I took my kids to the launch of Kids Night on Broadway, where families can get discount tickets for shows starting in January, and we are thrilled that more kids can get to get to see shows (mine sees many!). You have to check it out.
– Lastly, my daughter gravitated to the iScream booth because of their vibrant, colorful pillows and blankets. This brand truly defines where she is in life as a tween, and I was equally glad to see them there.
By the way, KidzVuz is a totally safe video review sharing site for kids age 7-12. It’s the ONLY online destination exclusively dedicated to letting tweens have their say and share their views about the stuff they love. I’m proud to say that is my daughter pictured above making a video – she’s come a long way (she used to be so shy!). Send your kids there if they want to be heard and share opinions: Kidzvuz.com.
Disclosure: I received a gift bag in conjunction with this event to share my thoughts but all opinions are my own.
We’re so glad you guys had a good time, and met so many good sponsors. That’s the whole idea!
