Getting Up Close and Personal with The Lorax

The LoraxI was a huge fan of the Dr. Seuss series growing up and was eager to take my kids to see the new motion picture, The Lorax. So, when I was invited to a special screening last week, I jumped at the chance.

The film will be released by Universal Pictures on March 2nd, on what would have been the 108th birthday of Dr. Seuss (he died in 1991 at age 87).  It’s the 4th feature film based on a book by Dr. Seuss himself (Horton Hears a Who!How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat being the predecessors).  Fortunately, my kids have seen and loved them all, and this film was no exception.

We watched the  film at the TriBeCa Film Center  - in 3D, no less.  My kids are always so excited to get the glasses and experience a film in another dimension.  It features a stellar cast of Zac Efron, Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, and Betty White (LOVE her!).  This is not a film review, I will write one after the release, but I will say that the film delivers a very important message – that we all have the power to change the world, no matter how small our efforts may seem.  To me, that is exactly what I want my children to grow up believing and a message that I try to instill in them everyday. Here is a “Look Inside” video of the making of the film.

After the screening, and a declaration that The Lorax was a hit by both of my kids, we headed to Moomah,an art cafe I have long wanted to experience owned by the ultra-creative Tracey Stewart (wife of Jon Stewart).  Unfortunately, the cafe is closing on April 1st but I’m sure that the owner is headed to another great venture as the cafe really spoke to me as a place for moms and children to grow, to learn, to enjoy each other.

The party itself had everything necessary to celebrate the film: arts and crafts, dancing, balloons, wonderful food and pictures with the Lorax IRL.  Here are some shots of my kids from the event and I’m including an entire Flickr slide show below.

The Lorax

I’m really looking forward to sharing my thoughts on the film in a few weeks.  Meanwhile, mark your diaries and plan on spending an afternoon with The Lorax starting March 2nd!

Disclosure: I was not compensated to write this coverage but did receive complimentary tickets to the screening and party.
