I have long had an obsession with Charlie Chaplin. As the daughter of a mother with a fetish for old movies, I was raised on films like "Modern Times" and "The Kid". I continued following his life and career as a film minor in University and wrote a paper or two on his movies. It came as no surprise to me whatsoever that I adored the new French film that has been sweeping up every award, The Artist. Unlike the filmgoers in England, who recently demanded their money back after finding out that this is a silent film, I relished the opportunity to go back in time to an era that is responsible for the birth of the motion picture industry.
