Frolic-Palooza to Benefit Camp Brooklyn This Sunday

Many children from low-income Brooklyn families seldom get an opportunity to leave their urban environment. The Camp Brooklyn Fund was created to give these children an opportunity to attend sleep-away camp and have the experience of a lifetime! Just $500 will send a child to camp for two weeks. Teamwork, loyalty, wholesome health habits, responsibility and personal respect and appreciation for nature are all a part of a child's education at summer camp.  Intensive camp experiences can truly open up a world of opportunities to young people. Oran Etkin Live in Concert

Oran Etkin, a noted jazz and world music clarinetist, will bring songs from his brand new CD "Wake Up, Clarinet!" to audiences in several cities this fall.  Brooklyn, NY based Etkin has developed a "Timbalooloo" method to teach the fundamentals of music through games, stories and and songs, incorporating melodies and rhythms from all over the world.  Edie Falco, Naomi Watts, Harvey Keitel and  Ken Burns are all fans - their kids have enjoyed Oran's classes in NYC. Girl’s Night Out: – Paula Cole live at Joe’s Pub

At 8pm tonight, I left two fighting children (she drank from his water bottle - the horror!) with my over-worked, exhausted hubby and took the train into NYC.  It was an easy shot to the East Village on the subway and I managed to get there by 8:45, just in time to get in line for the Paula Cole show at Joe's Pub.  I met two girlfriends and we watched Paula Cole sing from her soul.   Her music is so sensual, so confessional.  She sings about personal hardships and experiences, as well as her journey.I first saw her when she was … [Read more...]
