We spent some time in Savannah with the kids late last week. I grew up in Georgia and have fond memories of family visits there as a child so I was eager to return. Plus, I knew the city's British influence would be of great interest to my English husband. Savannah is truly one of America's most beautiful and historical cities and after a day spent touring around, I can honestly say that I have to go back. Maybe without the kids, so I can truly experience as much as I want to see, and it's certainly a romantic city so it might warrant a visit … [Read more...]
Weekend Getaway Suggestion: The Inn at Serenbe
Nestled just thirty minutes from the Atlanta Airport lies a true gem of a place to stay, the Inn at Serenbe. I grew up in Atlanta yet had never heard about it until my mother mentioned it to me recently. Curious about the grounds, gourmet dining, hayrides, bonfires, chickens. the trails and the folk art that fills the property, we made our reservation and met there this past weekend. One sister arrived from Brooklyn, the other from Philadelphia, I arrived from Westchester, NY and my mom came in from the middle of Atlanta. We had not … [Read more...]
Callaway Gardens, A Great Family Getaway
My family just spent three days at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. I spent many family vacations there as a child and was eager to show my children this very special, memorable place. Seeing that I haven't been here for many years, I wasn't sure if our getaway would live up to my memory's standards. It definitely did. Even though we managed to arrive on the grounds barely one week after high season ended, and many attractions and restaurants were closed during our stay, we still found so much to do on Callaway' Garden's 13,000 … [Read more...]
Wild Animal Safari in Pine Mountain, GA
We're spending a few days in Callaway Gardens during our visit down south. Callaway Gardens holds a very special place in my heart. It's where I came on many family holidays during my childhood. I'm going to blog about Callaway Gardnes this weekend. While we were in Atlanta a few days ago visiting with various members of my family, one of my cousins told me to definitely try to hit a place nearby called the Wild Animal Safari. They recommended that we not take our rental car into the park, which was very good advice. Otherwise, we would have to … [Read more...]
Salvador Dali at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art-”Dali: The Late Work”
A highlight of my current visit to Atlanta has been our visit to the High Museum of Art for their current exhibit, "Dali: The Late Work." It follows his work after he was expelled from the surrealist movement in 1939. Much of the work derives from the Salavador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida which I visited as a teenager and have vivid memories of. I have long been a big fan of his work and was pleased to introduce it to my family. The rest comes from the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, Figueres, Spain. The exhibit will remain on … [Read more...]
