9/24-9/26 The DUMBO Arts Festival —  features more than 500 local and international artists — will offer many fun-filled family activities during a weekend of arts festivities.  Where: 45 Main St. between Water St. and Front St., Brooklyn.

9/25 11am-4pm  The New York Restoration Project (NYRP), in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and New Yo/wp-admin/post.php?post=798&action=editrk City Council Member Robert Jackson, presents the annual Little Red Lighthouse Festival along the banks of the Hudson River. This year’s festival will shine a light (green light, of course!) on music and the arts. Where: Northern Manhattan’s Fort Washington Park.

9/26 10am-6pm The 36th annual Atlantic Antic, to be held September 26, 2010, is an event not to be missed! On this beautiful fall Brooklyn day, the Atlantic Antic draws up to 1 million attendees onto Atlantic Avenue to celebrate the Antic’s longstanding tradition of eclectic food, festivities, and fun! From start to finish, Atlantic Avenue is a sea of people exploring a variety of 600 vendors while grooving to music from nine live performance stages.

The 28th Queen County Fair, September 25th-26th, A traditional county fair with blue ribbon competitions in livestock, produce, home crafts, arts and crafts, and more. Enjoy the Amazing Maize Maze, pie-eating and corn-husking contests, Big Apple Circus Variety Acts, make-your-own-scarecrow, hayrides, petting zoo, carnival rides, and midway. Visit their Bavarian Garden , Irish and German bands, craft and food vendors.


The 84th Annual Feast of San Gennaro, New York City’s longest-running, biggest and most revered religious outdoor festival in the United States, will be held through Sunday, September 26, 2010, on the streets of historic Little Italy.  Though this is an annual celebration of faith, the Feast of San Gennaro is known the world over for its festive atmosphere, an 11-day event featuring religious processions and colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic food delicacies, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition!

Family Affair: Viva La Vida! is a centennial celebration of the Mexican Revolution, taking place on Saturday, September 25th from 1-4pm.  It includes family-friendly music, food and more.

Smithsonian Magazine’s Sixth Annual Museum Day, Saturday, September 25th at noon, celebrates art and the human spirit at select museums around the countrywithout charge.

New York City Apple Day: Apples on Orchard, Sunday, September 26th, from 11am-5pm.

This year’s festival, located in scenic northern Manhattan’s Fort Washington Park, will shine a light (green light, of course!) on music and the arts and will take place on Saturday, September 25th from 11am-4pm.

A favorite amongst NYC families for many years, the Little Red Lighthouse Festival celebrates the historic lighthouse located along the Hudson River, as well as all of the beauty and benefits our city’s great outdoors provides. Held from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, this event will feature a variety of eco-inspired and art-themed programming, ranging from lighthouse cookie decorating to interactive arts, hands-on craft activities and musical instrument making. Participants will even get the opportunity to partake in a dance workshop with performers from the Tony-Winning Best Musical BILLY ELLIOT.

Additional festival highlights include a special guest reading of the children’s classic book – The Little Red and the Great Grey Bridge – performances by local youth groups, lighthouse tours guided by NYC Park Rangers and flavorful festival food

The New York Restoration Project (NYRP) invites New Yorkers for free outdoor movies beneath the stars at their Summer Outdoor Movie Nights at Swindler Cove Park in Inwood, a five-acre park along the Harlem River. The movies, which are part of Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth and LIFE series, give an up-close look at nature, our environment and the wondrous world in which we live. Movies are shown on a large screen along the Cherry Tree Esplanade on Thursday nights from July through August. Families are invited to bring blankets, snacks and beverages. Complimentary hot popcorn will be served. The films start at 7:30 pm.

New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is proud to announce that the non-profit organization has been chosen as one of the 10 charities benefiting from Oprah Winfrey’s Live Your Best Life Walk on Sunday, May 9th in New York City.
O, The Oprah Magazine is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with the Live Your Best Life Walk, benefiting 10 deserving charities selected by the editors of the magazine. The walk is open to all who wish to take part and give back, and NYRP’s founder, Bette Midler, is one of the special guests scheduled to appear. The event takes place on Mother’s Day, and fittingly, Bette will be walking with her daughter, Sophie.
NYRP is recruiting members and all New Yorker’s to join the Live Your Best Life Walk, which will raise vital funds for the organization’s restoration and revitalization of New York City parks, community gardens and open spaces. NYRP focuses its work in underserved neighborhoods throughout the city’s five borough’s, as well as provides environmental education and programs to thousands of youth and adults.

NYRP works every day to instill both individual and civic respect for nature, and personal responsibility for contributing to New York City’s long-term environmental sustainability. Supporting NYRP carries out Bette Midler’s dream of a cleaner, more beautiful New York City, and will ensure every NYC resident has access to vibrant, green spaces everyday.


Walkers who raise $1,000 for NYRP will receive a complimentary invitation to Bette Midler’s Spring Picnic gala on May 17th that will be hosted by Nathan Lane.
Anyone who registers to walk and raises $200 or more by May 7, 2010, will be entered in a sweepstakes to win lunch with Gayle King, editor at large of O, The Oprah Magazine, followed by a tour of the magazine’s editorial offices.

New York Restoration Project (NYRP) together with presenting sponsor Organic Gardening Magazine and in partnership with with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation , the National Gardening Association and Union Square Partnership, will host NYC Grows, an environmental themed public festival that invites New Yorkers to explore community gardening, urban agriculture, sustainability, organic cooking and environmental education.   In 2010, NYRP – a New York City based, environmental non-profit started by entertainer Bette Midler – celebrates its 15th birthday and 40th anniversary of Earth Day by transforming this annual community event into a giant celebration of gardening and sustainable living.

NYC Grows is free and and will take place from 10am-4pm this Sunday, April 25th at the recently renovated plaza in Union Square in Manhattan.  The family-friendly festival will be both fun and informative, aiming to entertain and educate New Yorkers of all ages about the joys of gardening, sustainability and living green.
