Oprah is coming clean on a Barbara Walters special this week about being a lesbian. She's not. Of course, she's not. I, for one, never thought she was, nor did I ever care. Rumors about her relationship with her friend, Gayle King, have been flying around for years. Let's put the rumors to rest. I wouldn't care if she was, nor would she, for that matter, but she values her personal life. To Barbara Walters, she stated rather matter of factly, "I'm not even kind of a lesbian. And the reason why [the rumor] irritates me is because it … [Read more...]

Ruby’s Studio: The Feelings Show
Imagine a group of mothers coming together to produce a video about kid's feelings? Who better than to understand exactly how children feel than a group of experienced mothers (who happen to be experienced producers)? My kids and I just spent time together watching a DVD called Ruby's Studio: The Feelings Show. It was produced by a company called the Mother Company, a group of dedicated mothers and parents hoping to bring a new kind of children's entertainment. Their content will focus on social and emotional learning. I was curious to check … [Read more...]

Ellen DeGeneres’ Departure from “American Idol”
Hearing about Ellen DeGeneres' departure from "American Idol" is some of the best news I've heard in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I adore her. I have followed her career since it's humble beginnings. … [Read more...]
Culture Mom TV: Mad Men Premiere “Public Relations”
Season 4 of "Mad Men" opens with a close up of a distracted Draper being asked, “Who is Don Draper?” The question, comes from an Ad Age reporter. The interview ends with the reporter tripping over his feet and he tells Don that he lost part of his leg in Korea. This is the war in which Dick Whitman adopted the real Donald Draper’s identity. This is why "Mad Men" is just so good - as normal as moments may seem, we have constant reminders of the darkness that lies beneath. Don's reluctance to talk about his new business is confusing at … [Read more...]
Visit to PBS Studios in New York City
A few days ago, all of the PBS Kids Club 13 Ambassadors gathered at the new WNET Studios at Lincoln Center for a meet & greet luncheon. Debbie Adler, PBS Channel 13/WNET's Director of Online Marketing, has put together such an amazing group of women to join the team of ambassadors, including some of my favorite NYC bloggers, there are 14 total, and I am extremely honored to be a part of it all. In addition, I am doubly honored to be associated with PBS Kids, a brand that I have known all of my life. From the minute my own children were born, I … [Read more...]
Culture Mom TV: Parenthood
NBC's Parenthood storyline resonates with me week after week. I haven't enjoyed a show this much since 30 Something. I relate to this show on so many levels. For one thing, it's about parents, and their problems and realities. For another, it's about a family that has its ups and downs and shows that our problems are never singularly our own. You probably already know that the show follows the Braverman clan, five grown children, their families, and their aging parents. Last week the parents, Zeek and Camille, played by Bonnie Bedelia … [Read more...]
Culture Mom Day Out: Oprah Winfrey Live at Radio City Music Hall, NYC
I have been a huge fan of Oprah for years. I'm not sure when my obsession started but it definitely picked up after the kids were born. Suddenly, I was stuck at home for longer periods than I was ever used to having and turned on the show regularly during nap times. Over the last seven years since my kids were born, in particular, she's become like a member of the household. I find her show very inspiring and educational. She's a one of a kind. I also formerly worked at Oxygen Media, a company she formerly owned, and met her in person there. … [Read more...]
