I’ve always thrived on chaos. My mom used to ask me constantly how I managed to do so much in a day. Between the kids, work, community projects and everything else, I’d fill my days with so much activity that it seemed more than enough to fit one person’s schedule. After all, who says that being a mom doesn’t have its daily challenges? As a working mom, I’ve always prided myself on multi-tasking.
Put me in front of the television and I’ll be on my laptop. While washing dishes, I’m on the phone. While breastfeeding, I used to read books at the same time. I’ve used my iPhone to work while at the beach and at the pool. When I wake up every morning, I immediately get to work, running around the house like a chicken with my head cut off getting the kids ready for school. My head starts buzzing – “Get the kids up and out!” “Make lunch! “ ”Put their homework in their backpacks!” The deadlines buzz inside my head and I’m like a machine that won’t stop.
Time…it’s a funny thing when you think about it. It keeps you in line, both short term and long term. It helps us get places on time, set goals, live life to the fullest.
Yet it took on a whole new meaning for me last year. Due to a health scare, I realized how precious time is, without being completely cliche. I decided to take on the world with a new stride – from riding a 40 mile bike ride to running a 5K to traveling to new places to writing my first long-form piece for the web site Medium to returning to school. I also took a further look at motherhood, and decided to disconnect from technology more often at home so I could be more present in the lives of my children, and that was one of the better decisions I’ve made over the last few years.
Last week I attended an event to celebrate the launch of the newly-released Citizen Sunrise Watch and the event reminded me of managing my own chaos to everything I’m trying to do to better myself this year (from exercising to eating healthy to taking better care of my appearance).
The event’s theme #BetterStartNow really spoke to me with speakers who focused on bettering ourselves in various areas of our lives in relatively short time periods (speaking of time) . Scott Hamilton spoke about 10 Minutes a Day to a Powerful Core; Christian Zamora spoke about 5 Minutes a Day for Drop-Dead Gorgeous Eyes; Carol Rubin gave a presentation on The Art of the 5 Minute Snack; and Lynn Roberts shared her 1 Minute a Day to Tie The Perfect Scarf (I’m a huge scarf wearer, so her segment really spoke to me).
The watch itself is beautiful – it’s stylish, sophisticated and brazen. With an elegant white Mother-of-Pearl dial and sapphire crystal, the Sunrise series sets the standard for timeless women’s fashion. The watch comes in a reverse two-tone stainless steel case and bracelet. It uses technology that harnesses the power of light – from any natural or artificial light source – and converts it into energy which is stored in a permanently rechargeable lithium-ion cell. It recharges continuously in any kind of light to run forever. These watches can be worn for a lifetime, unaffected by passing trends. I really like its look and feel, and I look forward to it keeping me in the line of chaos and serenity.
Disclosure: I was provided with a New Citizen Sunrise watch to facilitate this review, but all opinions expressed are my own.
Ahhhh absolutely love the watch!!!!! 2015 is the year for me to focus on my business 😉
We are so glad you were able to come to the #BetterStartsNow event, Holly! It was such a pleasure to see you.
My resolution this year is also to tune out SM and focus more on what matters most: family, friends, ourselves and our work. This post reinforces that, and our choice is a good one. Here’s to a wonderfully unplugged and more fulfilling 2015!
