Where to Watch the Royal Wedding in New York City

Kate and William royal wedding where to watch in new yorkFeeling bad that you can’t cross the ocean to watch the Royal Wedding?  I know my husband is, although he’s not admitting it.  If you live in New York City, here are a few places I’ve found where you can watch it.  We’re on vacation in Orlando, so we’ll be watching it from our room starting at 5am  or before, unfortunately, but if you live in the city, GO JOIN THE BRITS!  And to all my British readers (namely my mother-in-law), enjoy the ceremony and please leave comments on where and how you’re watching it.  Here’s what happening in NYC bright and early on Friday morning, posh and non-posh events throughout the day.  If you know of another event, please list it here!

Non-Posh Events:

Times Square wil be featuring the royal wedding ceremony on the big screen.  So, if you really don’t want to watch it alone, make your way to 42nd Street.

Greenwich Avenue will host a royal wedding street party on April 29th. There’ll be a Pearly King and Queen — a couple who will dress up in costumes adorned with pearls, traditional English folk dancers.  Everything starts at 6am.

Restaurant Lyon (118 Greenwich Avenue), which typically serves French food, will switch allegiance for the day and kick off the bash at 6 a.m., serving smoked haddock and scambled eggs or egg sarnies, Bucks Fizz and imported beer from the UK.

British-owned Tea & Sympathy (108 Greenwich Avenue) will offer champagne, smoked salmon and scotched eggs, kedgeree (spiced fish and rice), smoked haddock soup and spring lamb chops on mint, as well as other British fare throughout the day, starting at 10am.  They are also selling Royal Wedding Raffle tickets with prizes including round-trip tickets to London, helicopter ride around NYC, Tom Binns designer necklace, Mulberry handbag and many more. Tickets $10.00 each, proceeds to the Royal Couple’s charity.

A rerun of the royal wedding coverage will be shown at the British-owned Atlantic Ave. ChipShop in Brooklyn beginning at 10 a.m.  Champagne cocktails and food will be available, including kedgeree, kippers and the full English breakfast of eggs, sausages and bacon.

The Paley Center (25 West 52nd Street) is hosting a viewing party for free. Women can also come in their best bridesmaid dress and compete for the title of “Most Unique Bridesmaid Dress.” The event will be topped off with tea and scones provided by Twinings and our favorite NYC tea shop, Alice’s Tea Cup.

Posh Events:

New York Palace (455 Madison Avenue): The New York Palace is hosting a “Royal Wedding Sunrise Breakfast.” Guests will be treated to coffee and tea at 5:30 a.m. followed by breakfast that includes bangers, scones and marmalade as well as a champagne toast to commemorate the ceremony. At $150 per person, you will also receive scented candles with the crown logo, slippers, pillows and blankets.

Donald Trump is hosting the “Trump Royal Wedding Experience,” offering overnight stays at the Trump International Hotel & Tower (One Central Park West). With a view of Central Park, guests will nosh on eggs, caviar and mimosas while watching the newlyweds share their first kiss at the hotel’s dining room. They will also be going home with a piece of “Royal Wedding” china, which will help them remember the special day. The “Trump Royal Wedding Experience” package starts at $1,075.

Big Apple Brits and the DUMBO Improvement District and BBC America are throwing The Official Royal Wedding ’11 NYC Massive Party.” Starting at 5 a.m. and ending at 1 a.m., this big bash will not only provide screens for you to watch the Royal Wedding live (and again in the afternoon), but it will also be filled with raffles, live music and comedic performances and even face painting for the kids. A $30 evening pass will give you all the Pimms, Kia Royals and canapés you want while you toast to Kate and will at this Brooklyn soiree.  Check out the schedule here.

I’m sure there are a lot more options, and you may want to watch it in the comfort of your own home, in your PJs.  Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the “wedding of the century”.
